"Dividing The Land" Recent Works by Gregory Stock |

Reception Saturday, July 7th 2012, 7-9pm
The Center, 946 N. Mills Avenue (US 17/92), Orlando, FL, 32803
Man has imposed his will on the land, since he started to pile up dirt and move rock. The surveyors have mapped their
invisible grid across the whole planet, and satellites now provide it on the internet. I like to think there is an invisible
structure underlying the universe, and whatever the image, I often grid my canvas and vary the colors in the adjoining squares
to create divisions in the image.
As an experienced colorist, painting for me is a visual odyssey, starting with an image that caught my mind’s eye, and ending
with saturated colors and marks seducing the viewer. The work explores notions of light, color, pattern, figure and relief.
